Promenade Square

This small green space, nestled among elegant 18th-century buildings, is known as Promenade Square. A salt warehouse once stood here, until its demolition in 1778. In the early 19th century, the area was transformed into a public garden, and quickly became a favourite spot for locals, eventually earning its current name. Take a look at the charming façades around the square. They belong to townhouses built in the 18th century by wealthy Munich citizens. Several statues are scattered around the park, including the striking sculpture of Count von Montgelas. Over six metres tall and made of aluminium, this unique monument pays tribute to one of Bavaria’s Minister-Presidents, who governed the region from 1799 to 1817.
