The Tube

You’re now standing in front of the entrance to the Tube, a one-of-a-kind escalator that stretches 80 metres through the Elbphilharmonie. It connects the ground-level entrance to the panoramic terraces, where we’ll take you next. This is the longest escalator in Europe, and it comes with a twist, quite literally. The Tube is gently curved, so as you ride, you can’t see the end. The ride takes about two minutes and draws you into a mesmerising world of 7,900 shimmering glass sequins, where light dances across the pale walls. Think of it as the warm-up act before the main performance. To ride up, you’ll need to book a time slot online and pay a small fee of 3 euros. But here’s a helpful tip, entry is free after 11pm and no reservation is required. Trust us, seeing Hamburg lit up at night from the Plaza is absolutely magical.
