It’s a true masterpiece of acoustics, designed by none other than Yasuhisa Toyota, one of the world’s top acousticians, and yes, that is a real job. The Japanese expert Yasuhisa Toyota knows it inside out. He designed the hall as a cocoon of light, shielded from outside noise thanks to a special structure of walls and ceilings known as the “white skin,” which carries sound to even the furthest corners. The hall is built on the Weinberg principle, the stage sits at the centre, and the seats rise around it in terraces. That way, no audience member is more than 30 metres from the conductor. It also features an impressive organ with 4,765 pipes, all cast on site!
