A champion's hotel

Hotel Borg was founded by Johannes Josefsson, who became world champion of Glima, the traditional Icelandic wrestling, in 1907. After a career as a performer and athlete abroad, he returned home to create this prestigious establishment. Opened in the 1930s, the hotel displays an elegant Art Deco style that contrasts with the sobriety of the neighbouring buildings and bears witness to Reykjavik's opening to the world.
