The Grassi Palace

A cultural stop on the Venice audio-guided tour, the Grassi Palace stands beside the Grand Canal. Built between 1748 and 1772 for a wealthy Venetian family that gave it its name, it has since 2005 been a great cultural address of the city.

The Pinault collection

The palace owes this new vocation to the French collector Francois Pinault. After buying the property from the Agnelli dynasty, at the head of the Fiat empire, the businessman established there his centre of modern and contemporary art, where more than three thousand works from his personal collection are presented.

What to see

In all, some forty rooms host the works of major twentieth- and twenty-first-century artists. With the Punta della Dogana, the Grassi Palace forms one of the most important centres of contemporary art in Venice. Admire this eighteenth-century palace, an elegant setting for modern creation.
