The Zattere

A charming and little-known stop on the Venice audio-guided tour, the Zattere were once the place where boats docked to unload their cargoes of wood. At that time, everything was built from this material: bridges, houses and boats.

A quay facing due south

Boats found here, and still find, their repair workshops. Today, the Zattere quay is a long and pleasant two-kilometre promenade, facing due south. Unlike the narrow alleys of the centre, the area is bright and airy.
