From a road junction to a pedestrian square

From 2008, inhabitants, merchants and actors of the district imagined another way of using this space, turned towards people rather than towards cars. After long years of reflection and works, Namba Hiroba opened in 2023, before being completed in 2025. Facing the square unfolds the Takashimaya Osaka, one of the most prestigious and oldest department stores of the city: dated 1932, it is famous for its Art Deco architecture, its geometric lines and its massive façade.

What there is to see

The square opens onto the Takashimaya department store, where one finds fashion, cosmetics, stationery and souvenirs, as well as a huge food basement, the depachika, offering bentō, pastries and Osaka specialities. The station is just behind. A very frequented place, Namba Hiroba is the heart of a district renowned for its entertainment and its shopping centres, ideal for taking a break along the visit.

Practical information

Namba Hiroba is in the heart of the Namba district, in Osaka, in front of the Takashimaya department store and near the station. It is a public space freely accessible at all hours and on the level. The department store follows its own opening hours.
