San Cristobal Temple

You’ve now reached the San Cristobal Temple. When it was first built in 1604, it was just a modest chapel connected to the nearby hospital. In 1676, construction began to expand it into a larger, more elegant church. Its architecture was quite unique for the time and went on to inspire several other buildings throughout the region. The two striking towers you see are actually much newer than the rest of the structure, they were destroyed during a bombing in 1853 and only rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The interior is beautifully ornate and absolutely worth a visit, so don’t hesitate to step inside and take a look around!
