You’re now strolling along the waterfront promenade in the Aker Brygge district. The area’s named after the old Aker shipyards and mechanical workshops that once stood here for more than a century! At its peak, it was the largest shipyard in all of Norway. In the 1980s, the shipyards closed and partially merged with another Norwegian company. That’s when the city launched a major urban redevelopment plan, transforming this former industrial zone into a vibrant leisurely and lifestyle spot, full of bars and restaurants. It became a blend of sleek architecture and old industrial buildings converted into commercial spaces, giving Aker Brygge a unique charm. It’s a popular spot among locals and tourists, and if the sun’s out, terraces will be packed! You might even spot some brave souls jumping straight into the water from the quay! You’ll also find plenty of art galleries here. So there’s plenty to do as you walk around, enjoy it at your own pace!
