View of Bryggen

From here, you’ve got one of the best views of Bergen’s beautiful old Bryggen district. This is probably the image you had in mind before you arrived, so I hope the weather’s on your side and you manage to snap the perfect photo. That being said... Bergen may be known as the “gateway to the fjords,” but it also holds another title : Europe’s rainiest city. Probably not the kind of record you’re hoping for on your holiday! But locals have a good sense of humour about it. There’s even a well-loved joke that goes: a frustrated tourist once asked a little boy, “Does it always rain like this in Bergen?” The boy replied, “I don’t know… I’m only nine!” So yes, expect a bit of drizzle. Or a lot. To be fair, it’s this very rain that gives Bergen its lush, beautiful greenery, so we’ll forgive it.
