Electricity Museum

On your right, you’ll see the Electricity Museum—known as Casa da Luz in Portuguese—which offers a fascinating look at the history of electricity in Madeira. Housed in Funchal’s former thermal power station, the museum takes you through how lighting and energy have evolved on the island, with displays of old lamps, electrical machines, and models of power plants. There's also a section focused on different energy sources, including renewables, making it a great stop if you're curious about how Madeira has kept the lights on over the years. Opened in 1989, it’s a small but engaging museum that gives you real insight into a lesser-known part of the island’s story. If you're interested, entry costs just a few euros.
