Ponte do Laço

Romantic, historic, colourful, flat or arched, each bridge in Aveiro brings its own unique charm to the journey across the canals. Some of them have become attractions in their own right, such as the Ponte do Laço, which you’re about to cross. Opened to the public in 2006, this bridge stands out for its unique location, at the intersection of two canals, São Roque to your left, and dos Botirões to your right. It wasn’t an easy feat for the designers, to say the least. Take a closer look. The structure features a circular platform, suspended by three large rods, anchored to a central concrete mast shaped like a knot, or laço in Portuguese. It’s a reference to the mooring rings used by boats. From the top of the bridge, you get a perfect vantage point to watch the moliceiros glide by, those wonderfully colourful boats deeply tied to Aveiro’s maritime heritage.
