The Municipal Museum of Archaeology

Calling all history buffs, and anyone curious about the roots of this seaside town! The Municipal Museum of Archaeology takes you through the many eras that have shaped Albufeira, with a collection of objects uncovered during excavations in the town and across the Algarve. It’s a great way to understand what the city once looked like, how its people lived, and how it grew into one of Portugal’s most popular seaside destinations. Inside, you’ll find artefacts from the Prehistoric period, the Roman era, the Islamic period, and more modern times—each piece telling the story of what is now known as the “Saint-Tropez of Portugal.” It’s well worth a visit if you have some spare time. There’s nothing like an archaeological museum to give you a deeper feel for a place. It’s also housed in a historic building that was once Albufeira’s town hall.
