This is one stop you won’t want to miss! San Sebastian’s aquarium, built in 1928, is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. This comes as no surprise, given the city’s deep connection to the sea, which dates all the way back to the 11th century. It was the first natural science museum founded in Spain, and one of the earliest oceanographic museums in Europe. Construction took three years, and it quickly became the city’s most-visited attraction, showcasing over 200 species in its tanks, all native to the Cantabrian Sea. The Cantabrian Sea is the body of water along the Basque coast of France and Spain, located in the southern part of the Bay of Biscay, between Brittany and northern Spain.
