A tribute to the poet of the Canaries

The square bears the name of Bartolome Cairasco de Figueroa, a 16th-century poet, playwright and musician, considered the founder of Canarian literature. Through his works, he conveyed the culture and traditions of the islands and earned a place among the great European poets of his time, making known the islands nicknamed of eternal spring. This legacy earned him the honour of giving his name to one of the busiest squares in Las Palmas.

What there is to see

At the centre of the square stands a monument dedicated to Cairasco de Figueroa, surrounded by the fine facades of the district, including that of the Gabinete Literario. A passage between Triana and Vegueta, the square is a lively meeting point, ideal for a break on a terrace to soak up the atmosphere of the historic centre.
