Cairasco Square

The charming square where you'll find the Literary Cabinet marks the boundary between Las Palmas’s two historic districts, Triana and Vegueta. It’s named after Bartolomé Cairasco de Figueroa, a 16th-century poet, playwright, and musician who played a key role in shaping the city’s cultural identity. Often considered the father of Canarian literature, Cairasco captured the essence of island life in his works and became one of Europe’s greatest poets of his time, helping to tell the story of what are known as the “Islands of Eternal Spring.” His legacy lives on in this square, one of the most visited in Las Palmas, where the local spirit shines through in the traditional island architecture, vibrant terraces, and the statue of Cairasco, taking us back five centuries.
