Christopher Colombus House

Here’s one of Las Palmas’s must-see landmarks: the Casa de Colón, or Christopher Columbus’s house! However, this isn’t where he was born, nor did he live here for years. In fact, he probably only stayed here a few days. But still, it’s a big deal! The Canary Islands played a key role in his famous journey, acting as the last European stop before he set off for the Indies—which, as we know, turned out to be the Americas. Columbus is believed to have stayed in this house, which used to be the island governor’s residence, while one of his ships was being repaired. That’s why the museum is here today: dedicated to the great explorer, it features exhibition rooms full of maps, navigation tools, ship models, and paintings—all highlighting his connection to the Canaries and the huge impact his voyage had on the world. It’s a fascinating stop that takes you back in time, offering a glimpse into the life of one of history’s most iconic figures.
