The town hall of Malaga
The town hall of Malaga is an imposing town hall of neo-baroque style, inaugurated in 1919, that sits at the entrance of the park, a stone's throw from the historic centre. The Malaga audio-guided tour stops here to evoke this richly decorated building, built on land reclaimed from the sea to embody the modern face of the town of the beginning of the twentieth century.
The neo-baroque town hall of the modern town
A building as majestic as this one was indeed needed to host the town hall of Malaga. Inaugurated in 1919, this imposing town hall sits proudly at the entrance of the park, a stone's throw from the historic centre. It was built on former land reclaimed from the sea, in a zone conceived at the beginning of the twentieth century to embody the modern face of the town. The town hall is thus part of a monumental axis, between the botanical park, the hill of the Alcazaba and the seafront, like a point of articulation between the ancient history and the new town. With its rectangular plan, its four corner towers and its richly decorated façades, the building impresses. It adopts a neo-baroque style, embellished with modernist elements, chosen at the time to symbolise the recovered power and prosperity of the town. Work of the architects Guerrero Strachan and Rivera Vera, it was inaugurated by the mayor Manuel Romero Raggio and adorned with allegorical sculptures, balustrades and floral motifs that make it one of the finest civil buildings of Malaga. Inside hides a magnificent Hall of Mirrors, sumptuously decorated. In front of the town hall stretch the splendid Park of Malaga, filled with flowers and palm trees, and the gardens of Pedro Luis Alonso, that compose a setting of greenery up to the building. A monumental town hall and a symbol of the modern town, the town hall of Malaga is a fine stop of the discovery of the town.
