Don Luis de la Cueva Palace

The palace of Don Luis de la Cueva, standing before you, is one of Úbeda’s most emblematic noble residences. First built in the fifteenth century for the powerful Cueva family and entirely rebuilt in the early seventeenth century, it now shows the elegant simplicity of Andalusian Renaissance architecture. It is said that King Enrique IV stayed here during a visit to Úbeda, an event that strengthened his bond with the local hidalgo Beltrán de la Cueva, who would later become the monarch’s favourite. Over the centuries, the building has had many lives: a relief house and prison during the Civil War, a carpentry workshop in the years that followed, and then a long period of abandonment before its restoration, completed in 2006. Today, its 1,850 square metres are used as municipal services and cultural spaces.
