The Miró mosaic on La Rambla
The Barcelona audio-guided tour has you discover, right on the ground of La Rambla, the huge mosaic by Joan Miró. If you do not have time to visit the museum devoted to him, here it is Miró who comes to you, with a vivid work characteristic of his artistic language.
A work made to be trodden on
In 1976, Miró wanted to place a work directly on the ground of La Rambla, so that passers-by would walk on it, no matter the wear that would cause. The mosaic takes up the elementary colours and the intuitive language, close to childhood, so dear to the artist. It is set at an emblematic spot that, according to a tradition, is said to have given its name to the Boqueria district.
What there is to see
In bright colours, red, blue, yellow and green, the circular mosaic is easy to recognise, signed by the artist. Many passers-by cross it without noticing it: take the time to stop and observe it. It is a free and accessible encounter with the work of one of the greatest Catalan artists of the twentieth century, in the heart of La Rambla.
