The Perez Galdos Theatre
The Las Palmas audio-guided tour leads you before the Perez Galdos Theatre, the city's main theatrical venue. Since its renovation in 2007, it is considered one of the most modern theatres in Spain, at the start of the Calle Mayor de Triana.
A theatre with an eventful history
The first theatre in Las Palmas was the Cairasco, completed in 1845; before it, no building could host performances. Built too quickly, it had serious flaws that led to its demolition. In 1867 work began on a new theatre, on the present site, which took more than twenty years to complete. It bears the name of Benito Perez Galdos, the illustrious writer from Las Palmas.
What there is to see
The Perez Galdos Theatre charms with its architecture and the richness of its interior decoration, revealed during performances and tours. Carefully renovated, it combines heritage and modern facilities, and offers a varied programme of opera, music and shows. It is a high point of the cultural life of the Canarian capital.
