A Mudéjar masterpiece with Romanesque paintings

Built in the thirteenth century by Mudéjar craftsmen, on a former mosque attested by its keyhole-shaped door, the Church of San Román mixes the styles with a rare harmony. Its walls are lined with magnificent Romanesque wall paintings of the thirteenth century, in ochre, yellow and red tones. Its bell tower recalls that of Santo Tomé, and its interior consists of three naves separated by large horseshoe arches, typical of Visigothic and then Umayyad architecture of the emirate of Cordoba. The building could rest on former Visigothic foundations, which explains why it today houses the Museum of Visigothic Culture.
