The House of the Dragons

The House of the Dragons stands out dramatically from its neighbours. Its unique façade is one of the most photographed spots in Valencia! Built in 1901, this modernist residence is full of character, and features naturalistic decorative elements. But that’s not the end of its charm... The architect, José Manuel Cortina Pérez, added his own tastes to the building, including touches of fantastical medievalism. The main façade resembles a defensive tower, with a row of battlements along the top. You’ll also notice several dragons scattered across the structure, which give the building its name. If you look above the entrance, you’ll see one of the dragons holding a shield engraved with the letter "C"—referencing Cortina, the architect’s surname. Below that, you’ll spot a star within a circle. That emblem belonged to the Northern Railway Company, responsible for constructing the nearby train station at the time. It serves as a tribute to the local industrial progress. The building was partially demolished in the 1970s, but the House of the Dragons is now a four-storey residential building, with the ground floor occupied by commercial spaces.
