A district inspired by Seville

Triana was built in the 15th century, at the same time as the neighbouring Vegueta district, by Juan Rejon, governor for the Catholic Monarchs. Between the 18th and 20th centuries, wealthy merchants settled there, making it the bourgeois district of the city. Its name pays tribute to the Triana district in Seville, Andalusia, from which it draws inspiration in its houses and layout, a sign of the close links between the Canaries and southern Spain.
