Úbeda’s Archaeological Museum

Úbeda’s Archaeological Museum is housed in one of the city’s finest Mudejar residences, the Casa Mudejar, built between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. From the entrance, the central courtyard surrounds you with its galleries and its remarkable thirteenth-century Mudejar doorway. The museum, created in 1972 and opened the following year, brings together pieces from local excavations, deposits from the Museum of Jaén and items from the personal collection of its founder, Rafael Vañó Silvestre. The visit begins with prehistory, featuring stone tools and Bronze Age artefacts. In the courtyard, Roman objects illustrate everyday life in the ancient world. Upstairs, the Iberian and Roman rooms display urns, ceramics and ex-votos from sites such as Castellones de Ceal and Castellar de Santisteban. Together, they offer a brief yet rich journey through Úbeda’s history, with the architecture of the house naturally echoing the objects it protects.
