Victoria Eugenia Theatre

This beautiful theatre was inaugurated in 1912. It sits along the banks of the Urumea River, which flows into the Cantabrian Sea just a few steps from here. The Victoria Eugenia Theatre has become a symbol of San Sebastian, a city proud to host the International Film Festival each year. It’s the most prestigious film festival in Spain and one of the most renowned in the world. Created in 1956, it awards prizes for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Screenplay, and also pays tribute to the greatest careers in cinema. Artists across the globe dream of winning this prize. The award ceremony was originally held here in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, before the construction of the modern convention centre. Today, the venue continues to host a wide range of cultural performances, helping to make art accessible to everyone and welcoming locals into its elegant, comfortable, and contemporary space.
