Kungsträdgården Metro Station

Just when you think Stockholm has shown you all its treasures, it surprises you underground. By “underground,” we’re talking about its metro system, which is more than just a means of getting around. Of the city’s 110 stations, 90 have been decorated by artists. From sculptures to paintings, mosaics to installations, the visual arts are showcased in spectacular fashion. To see it for yourself, head to Kungsträdgården station—it should be just nearby—and keep your eyes wide open. It feels like stepping into a Roman-era archaeological site, with marble statues and remnants of an old palace. It’s also the only place in Scandinavia where you might spot a rare species of cave-dwelling spider crawling along the walls. It’s not the best stop for arachnophobes!
