Ledamotshuset
The Ledamotshuset
The Stockholm audio-guided tour points out, on Mynttorget square, the Ledamotshuset, the house of members of parliament, recognisable by its large Doric columns. Its historic facade, inherited from another building, gives all its character to this place linked to Swedish power.
From the royal mint to the house of members
The facade of the Ledamotshuset, designed in the 18th century, comes from the former royal mint, the Kungliga myntet, which once occupied the site. During the complete reconstruction of the building in the 1920s and 1930s, this historic facade was carefully preserved. The Ledamotshuset long housed the seat of government before serving the activities of Parliament.
What there is to see
The facade with Doric columns, which dominates Mynttorget square, illustrates the continuity between the former royal mint and the present parliamentary institution. Located at the entrance to Gamla Stan, the Ledamotshuset is part of the ensemble of buildings of Swedish power, between the Royal Palace and the Riksdag. You admire its architecture from the square.
