Until 1922, it was here that the kings of Sweden and their wives were buried on their death. In all, seventeen royal burials rest in the choir and the side chapels, making the Riddarholmen Church a true national pantheon, charged with history and memory.

What there is to see

The red-brick church, topped by an openwork cast-iron spire, stands out in the Stockholm sky. Inside, the royal tombs, the coats of arms of the knights of the Order of the Seraphim and the funerary chapels form a moving ensemble. They are contemplated in silence, as befits a place of burial and memory of the country's sovereigns.
