Where the lake becomes a river

A first bridge was built in sheet metal in 1862 at this location, before being replaced, in the twentieth century, by the current structure. Spanning the Rhone directly at its exit from the lake, the Mont-Blanc bridge connects two major road axes on the two banks of Geneva. It is here that Lake Geneva ends and the Rhone takes over, continuing its course through the city. An emblematic bridge, it is used by the largest Geneva events, from the marathon to the Swiss national day. From its deck, the view opens widely over the bay, the Water Jet and, in clear weather, the surrounding peaks. It is one of the most lively and most photographed crossing points of the city.
