View of the Old Town

You’re now at one of the classic viewpoints over Berne’s old town. To your right, you’ll see the Nydegg Bridge crossing the Aare River. The four small houses at each end of the bridge were once used to collect tolls, up until 1853. Straight ahead, across the shimmering river, you have a stunning panoramic view of historic Berne, with its red-tiled roofs and medieval streets, crowned by the city’s magnificent Gothic cathedral.
