Benjamin Franklin Bridge

Walk to the end of the pier to take in the view of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, which spans the Delaware River and connects Philadelphia to Camden. Built in the 1920s, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened. Originally known as the Delaware River Bridge, it was renamed in the 50s in honor of Benjamin Franklin. Today, it carries cars, trains, pedestrians, and cyclists, and its massive structure and sweeping cables make it a standout feature of the skyline. It’s not just a key transportation link, but also a symbol of connection between two states, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, just across the river. Now look to your right, across the water. You may notice a large warship docked along the shore. This is the USS New Jersey, one of the most famous battleships in American history. Built here in Philadelphia, it is considered the most decorated U.S. Navy battleship, with 19 battle stars. It served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. Today, it’s a museum that you can visit to explore life on board, from the crew’s daily routines to the command rooms and the massive gun turrets capable of firing shells more than 30 kilometers.
