Museum of the American Revolution

The cannons pointed toward you belong to the Museum of the American Revolution. Opened in 2017, this museum is dedicated to the American War of Independence, which took place between 1775 and 1783. It offers a broad perspective on the period, looking not only at military events, but also at the people involved and the political and social changes brought about by the Revolution. It shows how the thirteen British colonies in North America gradually came together to form a new independent nation, built on ideas such as popular sovereignty, citizenship, and individual rights. On the building’s facade, you can see a large inscription taken from the United States Declaration of Independence, including the well-known phrase “We hold these truths to be self-evident…,” which states that all men are created equal and have unalienable rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that governments derive their power from the consent of the governed. Inside, the museum brings together several thousand objects, documents, and artworks related to the revolutionary period. One of its most remarkable pieces is the field tent of George Washington, a direct and tangible link to the leadership of the Continental Army. Welcome to the very place where the United States began.
