The City Botanic Gardens came into being in 1828, in the time of the penal colony, first as a food garden intended to feed the population. They are today the oldest heritage gardens in Queensland, steeped in the history of Brisbane. Over time, they have become a place for walking and relaxing, enjoyed by the inhabitants.

The garden is home to a multitude of plant species, shaded paths, lawns and viewpoints over the Brisbane River. Very easy to reach, in the heart of the city, it offers a green interlude ideal for a break. It is one of the green lungs of Brisbane, on the edge of the business district.
