More than forty years of construction

Built in stages from 1886 to 1928 for the Queensland Government, the building kept the Premier, the colonial secretary and the other future occupants waiting through long years of work. With its ornate façade and its colonnades, it illustrates the prosperity of Brisbane in the Victorian era, when the city was asserting itself as the capital of Queensland.

The building stands out for its imposing architecture, its ornate stonework and its official appearance, in the heart of the business district. Heritage-listed, it is finding a new life: it is set to host a university campus, combining the preservation of its historic character with new uses.
