The era of the great hotels of the Vedado

In 1955, President Fulgencio Batista launched an ambitious hotel law, offering loans and fiscal advantages to investors ready to build luxury hotels and casinos in the Vedado. It was in this context that the Hotel Capri was founded in 1957. Endowed with more than two hundred rooms, a swimming pool on its roof, from which several film scenes were shot, and a casino-cabaret, it symbolises this prosperous period. Nationalised by the government in 1960, it remained closed for a long time before reopening in 2014.
