Molly Malone Statue

Hidden among passersbys since 1988, this ancient statue tells visitors an important story for Irish people. While some may start singing the city’s unofficial anthem to tell her story, we’ve opted for a more reserved and less lyrical version. We hope you’re not too disappointed! This woman, with her generous 18th-century curves, is believed to be the renowned Molly Malone. Many say that she was known for leading a double life. A street fishmonger by day alongside her parents, the young woman is said to have sold her body in the streets at night. Although some claim to have found written records of her existence in the registers of Saint John’s Church, the popularity of her name and discrepancies in some dates have made it more difficult to believe this claim. Having allegedly passed away at the age of 36 from a severe fever, Molly Malone haunts the streets of Dublin to this day.
