The National Wax Museum

You can see some superheroes on top of the beautiful Lafayette building, dominating the street corner. This indicates we have arrived at the new home to the Dublin Wax Museum. Since opening in 1983, the museum has relocated twice before settling in this historic city-center building. The Lafayette building is one of Dublin’s most famous private buildings, known for its stunning Gothic architecture. Originally built in the mid-19th century for a London-based insurance company, it was later transformed into a renowned photography studio by James Stack Lauder’s family. The name Lafayette was chosen because James believed that a French name would add prestige to his business! If you enjoy wax museums, this one is definitely for you. The National Wax Museum offers more than just celebrity figures—it features dedicated sections on science and history, something rarely found in this type of museum. Visitors can also explore an enchanted forest, a mirror maze, and, of course, wax figures of the world’s biggest stars. For thrill-seekers, there’s a horror room, featuring some of the most terrifying characters in history, as well as Dublin’s own Bram Stoker, the legendary author behind Dracula. A visit full of surprises, offering insight into Ireland’s folklore and history, all in a fun and immersive setting!
