Fonte Nova Park

Peaceful canals, a sea-kissed breeze, and soft lawns perfect for unwinding, Aveiro has everything it takes to turn your visit into a calm and delightful escape. One of the city’s main green spaces is Fonte Nova Park, named after the neighborhood it belongs to. This is a favourite spot among locals and visitors, with its wide grassy areas, playgrounds, sports courts, and sweeping view of the canal. As you follow the path along the quay toward the lake, you’ll spot five unusual yellow-and-white structures. Stretching 12 meters long and standing 3.7 meters high, this sculptural ensemble was created by artist Albano Martins in 2016. It was commissioned by the Confraternity of the Ovos Moles of Aveiro, a group dedicated to preserving and celebrating the city’s most iconic sweet treat, Ovos Moles, or “soft eggs.” Made from raw egg yolks and sugar syrup, these delicate sweets are wrapped in thin rice paper or chocolate, and shaped like shells, boats, barrels, or fish, an edible tribute to the city’s maritime roots. Martins’ sculpture gives you a visual taste of this local delicacy. As for the taste, there’s only one way to find out, try one for yourself!
