Let’s take a quick break to tell you about some other points of interest that couldn’t be included in the itinerary. Granada’s ultimate must-see site is the Alhambra, an ancient fortified medieval city and former residence of the Nasrid kings during the Muslim era. If you also visit the Generalife gardens, then you’ll have explored the entire UNESCO World Heritage site. To continue discovering the city’s architectural gems, make your way to the Royal Monastery of San Jeronimo, a fine example of Renaissance architecture. Built by the Catholic Monarchs, it’s richly decorated and features two beautiful cloisters. You can also explore the stunning Basilica of San Juan de Dios, located just a few steps away. Why not round off your Granada trip with a visit to the Sacromonte neighbourhood? Full of dazzling white cave-like dwellings, it’s now famous for its flamenco shows, which we highly recommend attending at least once. You can also visit the local museum and abbey to learn more about the area. Nature lovers, you’re in for a treat in the vast Sierra Nevada National Park. This spectacular mountain range offers stunning scenery, with lakes, forests, and trails ideal for hiking, mountain biking or even horseback riding. If you have a little more time in the region, don’t miss some of the surrounding villages. Alhama de Granada is perfect for a stroll among its whitewashed houses, dramatic gorges and famous Arab baths. Montefrío is even more striking, with its church perched on a rocky outcrop, one of the most breathtaking sights in the area. Another gem is the beautiful coastal town of Salobreña, with charming streets, a hilltop castle, and great beaches. Guadix is also worth visiting, known for its cathedral, Roman theatre, and troglodyte district. If you keep heading north for about an hour, you’ll reach the Gorafe desert, a landscape of stunning rock formations reminiscent of the American West or the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia. Finally, if you’re on a road trip through Andalusia, don’t miss the spectacular cities of Seville, Córdoba, Ronda, and Malaga, ideal if you’re craving some sun and beach time. With all this, there’s plenty to do if you decide to stay in the region for a little longer.
