Advice

Let’s take a quick break to tell you about a few other points of interest that couldn’t be included in the itinerary. While Valencia’s historic centre is full of charm, a trip to the City of Arts and Sciences shows that the city is also firmly focused on the future. This remarkable site, created by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, is one of the city’s must-see landmarks.

With its futuristic buildings, this cultural and scientific leisure complex feels like something out of a sci-fi film. Valencia also offers plenty of sunshine and sea. With nearly 20 kilometres of coastline, there’s plenty of beaches to choose from.

Playa de la Malvarrosa or Playa de las Arenas are both great options. For a breath of fresh air in the heart of the city, take a stroll through the Turia Gardens, shaped by Turia River. This park offers 9 kilometres of green space—perfect for walking, cycling, or a picnic under the trees.

If you’re craving more nature, head to the Albufera Natural Park just 10 kilometres from the city centre. It’s the perfect place for a day trip, where the sun sets beautifully across the lake. Think boat rides, birdwatching, bike trails, wild beaches, and a plate of paella at a local restaurant.

Wine lovers, head west to the Requena-Utiel region, where you’ll discover the native Bobal grape variety, making up about 75% of local vineyards. The region is also known for its cava—the traditional Catalan sparkling wine. Requena is the only place outside of Catalonia authorised to produce cava under a protected designation of origin.

There are also plenty of wine tours and tasting workshops throughout the region. If you’re visiting in August, don’t miss the famous Tomatina festival in Buñol! Less than 40 kilometres from Valencia, this is where the world’s most famous tomato fight takes place.

However, the festival has become increasingly controversial in recent years due to concerns over food waste. So, there’s plenty to do if you decide to stick around and explore the region for longer!
