Clavero Tower

Look to the left, and you'll spot the Torre del Clavero — an architectural gem that may surprise you. It's the only surviving part of the former palace of the noble Sotomayor family, blending the military strength and refined craftsmanship of the 15th century. Starting with a solid square base, the tower rises into an octagonal shape, reaching a height of 28 metres. Graceful yet imposing, it’s topped with eight distinctive corner turrets, each adorned with small arches, cornices, and coats of arms. These heraldic symbols are believed to belong to Don Francisco de Sotomayor, who served as key-bearer of the prestigious military Order of Alcántara around 1470. Recognised as a national monument since June 3rd, 1931, the Torre del Clavero now houses the offices of the Salamanca Provincial Council.
