Constitution Square

You’re now standing in the heart of the city! Constitution Square, located near the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Chorus and Saint Vincent Church, is a favourite meeting place for locals. This square has long been a central part of San Sebastian, and is where many of the city’s celebrations and events take place. In fact, it was once home to the bullfighting ring. If you look up at the balconies of the surrounding buildings, you can still see the seat numbers from the arena that used to occupy the space. The square took on its current form in 1817 and not long after, the town hall was set up in the building at one end of the square. Today, the town hall and the bullfights are long gone, but Constitution Square is still the beating heart of the city, buzzing with life, and lined with bars and restaurants, drawing both locals and visitors.
