The Ronda audio-guided tour evokes, in a traditional house on the Calle Armiñán, the former Bandolero museum, which long told the history of the bandits of the Serranía.

The memory of the bandits of the Serranía

For twenty-five years, this museum told the eventful history of the bandoleros who once roamed the Serranía de Ronda, those legendary figures who marked the Andalusian imagination as much as the romantic travellers of the nineteenth century. One discovered there the colourful lives of characters become almost mythical, such as El Tempranillo, Tragabuches or Pasos Largos, the last of the bandoleros, through weapons, clothes, portraits and tales of those who pursued them, like the Guardia Civil. The immersive atmosphere, made of costumed mannequins and reconstituted scenes, plunged into an era when the boundary between popular heroes and outlaws was blurred. The museum closed in 2020, and its collection was transferred to the village of El Borge.

What there is to see

At this site on the Calle Armiñán, there remains today only the façade of the former Bandolero museum, whose collection is now exhibited at El Borge under the name of Galería del Bandolero. The place nevertheless recalls the role of the bandoleros in the history and imagination of the Serranía, and the frontier atmosphere that fascinated the romantic travellers.
