San Sebastian Carousel

This charming carousel marks the entrance to San Sebastian’s old town. It was installed here in 1998, but its design takes you back to the early 1900s, reflecting the elegant style of the Belle Époque. As you get closer, you’ll notice its different seats shaped like horses, swans, and planes, as well as its hand-painted ceiling featuring reproductions of famous works by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Cézanne. This carousel has become somewhat symbolic of the city. It reminds us of the time when San Sebastian started creating all kinds of attractions for locals, tourists, and families, to make the city even more inviting than it already was. There’s even a vintage amusement park at the top of Mount Igueldo, with old-style rides you rarely see anymore! No big roller coasters here, just classic fun and stunning views over La Concha Bay and the city below, often called the most beautiful city in northern Spain.
