The Admiralty House

As soon as you step onto Skeppsholmen Island, you’ll spot an elegant pink building perched at the top of the hill. While its soft curves suggest a romantic vibe, the story behind it is quite different. This is the Admiralty House, a powerful symbol of Sweden’s naval glory days. Built in 1650, it initially hosted the Navy’s High Council. Back then, it contained an office, a courtroom, and a sail storage room. When the fleet moved to the town of Karlskrona in 1680, the building was repurposed to house the national archives. After all, a fire destroyed the old Royal Castle in 1697. It later became a grain warehouse, then a military barracks in the 18th century. Since 1997, the Admiralty House has contained a set of offices.
