The residence of the kings of Sweden

While its foundations go back to the Middle Ages, it was in the early 17th century, under King Gustav II Adolph and his daughter Christina of Sweden, that the palace became the official residence of the monarchy. After the fire that destroyed the old castle, the Royal Palace took its definitive Baroque form in the 18th century, at the end of a long construction. With more than six hundred rooms, it is one of the largest royal palaces in the world.
