Beyond the Picture Perfect Image

Parcours audioguidé pour visiter San Diego en 1 jour

Open to the Pacific Ocean, San Diego reveals a city far more layered than its seaside image suggests. Its historic center, waterfront, and multicultural neighborhoods tell a story shaped by migration, maritime trade, and military presence. As you explore it, you discover a sunlit metropolis where Mexican influences, naval heritage, and the California lifestyle blend naturally.

San Diego enjoys a wonderfully mild Mediterranean climate, with comfortable temperatures almost all year round. Summers are warm and dry, while winters stay gentle and sunny. Thanks to the Pacific Ocean, the heat is usually far more pleasant than in inland California. In spring and early summer, the coastline is often covered by a layer of morning marine fog — a local phenomenon known as “May Gray” and “June Gloom.” Overall, the weather is one of the main reasons San Diego is such an enjoyable city to live in and explore.

Parking à proximité

Ace Parking – Park It on Market — 614 Market Street, San Diego, California 92101, United States.

If you’re visiting Downtown San Diego or the Gaslamp Quarter, this parking garage at 614 Market Street is a convenient and fairly budget-friendly option. Rates are usually around one dollar an hour, which is quite reasonable for this part of the city. Just keep in mind that during major events — concerts, sports games, conventions, or large gatherings downtown — special event pricing often kicks in, and parking rates can rise significantly.

À savoir

If you’re staying in San Diego for a few days, the San Diego Explorer Pass can be a great option. It gives you access to several of the city’s major attractions — including the San Diego Zoo, the USS Midway Museum, and certain harbor cruises — with a flexible format that can be used over 30 days. In many cases, it works out cheaper than buying each ticket separately.

The currency used in San Diego is the US dollar, or USD. Credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, though it’s still handy to carry a little cash for small purchases or tips. Tipping is an important part of American culture. In restaurants, it’s customary to leave around 15 to 20 percent of the bill before tax, while in bars, people usually tip one or two dollars per drink. It’s also worth checking whether the service charge — often listed as “gratuity” — has already been added to the bill.
